Claire took this photo of the two-story wooden shop-houses lining Ban Si Raya's main street. The anchorage is protected in all seasons and not too difficult to sail into. This was once an important port on the sea-trade route along the Malay Peninsula used by Europeans, Chinese and Arabs. Now only a little tourism keeps it from being just another poor fishing village. We enjoyed its quiet, laid-back ambience.
